Ditch the excuses and go traveling!

Excuses to go traveling

I receive a lot of messages from people who would love to go traveling but who have doubts and fears which keep them from doing so. But in reality most of these doubts are actually excuses in disguise. Some of these might sound familiar to you, “I don’t have the time”, “I don’t have the money” or “I have no one to go with”. While these arguments sound legitimate at first sight, they absolutely should not keep you from doing what you want to do. If you think about it, all of these can be easily overcome if you really want it. Here is how: Continue reading

A Bitter Sweet Symphony: My Last Day of Work

TitelIt was looming since quite a while, but because I had been so busy and occupied with preparations, I was able to fade out the unavoidable. My last day of work, saying good bye to my co-workers and ending an important stage of my life.
As the day inevitably approached, I more and more realized that this episode is really going to end soon and that it will be sadder than I originally expected. Looking back at it, those almost 2 years were exciting and instructive but the true difference was made by those awesome people I worked with. Everyone was so kind and friendly right from the start and each one of my colleagues was just great as an individual. The same also goes for my supervisor which is anything but self-evident. We had the self-concept of being a sort of guerilla or special unit within this huge company. This and working in a high pressure environment as we did just forged a really strong bond. But also on a professional basis this episode was very inspiring and ultimately got me to the next level. All this really made this last day a tough one and truly bitter sweet. Continue reading

What if Money didn’t matter?

As mentioned in my first article and in the About page, it wasn’t an easy decision to basically leave everything behind to go travelling. After all I had been working for a while, had established a certain professional expertise and had been offered an extension of my employment contract at a renowned company. I think taking that decision or breaking out in general, not necessarily to go travelling, becomes harder and harder the more you are settled. It just gets harder to change and opt for risk and uncertainty. For a certain degree of security people tend to accept things, that actually don’t make them happy. They just learn to accept and live with them. I can’t exempt myself from this and I am not sure if I would be able to take the same path in a few years from now. Continue reading

Need motivation to go travelling? Here you go!

As I pointed out in my About-Page, I quit my job in market communications to go travelling Southeast Asia. Although it was a dream which I had for a long time and the situation to take this step was objectively right, I still had a hard time deciding to do it. Looking back at it, coming from a country where status and especially security is a major trait of society, this “struggle” is probably a normal phenomenon.Luckily, I am now very happy with my decision and I am sure, that if I had decided otherwise, I would have badly regretted it at one point in my life. In the end, nothing is worse than missed chances.

If you are in a similar situation, I’d like to give you some inspirational quotes which might be of help. They sure were for me. Check it out … Continue reading
